San Diego Magazine editor Tom Blair starts regular column, radio spot for San Diego News Network Monday
-Renowned journalist to cover life in the city for media outlet five days a week-
SAN DIEGO – April 28, 2009 – San Diego News Network, the source for hyper-local breaking news, sports, events, lifestyle and entertainment information, announced today that Tom Blair will begin a regular column and radio schedule for the media outlet Monday.
The San Diego Magazine editor will write Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays for SDNN.com and SanDiegoMagazine.com, and appear on San Diego 1700AM’s affiliated “A Conversation with San Diego” weekday morning radio program Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“It’s been 14 years since I penned my last city column and picked up the editor’s pencil at the city’s premier magazine — time does fly when you’re having fun,” said Blair. “And I’ll continue as editor-in-chief of San Diego Magazine, but I’ve missed that daily interaction with the community. It’s in my blood, and I’m looking forward to connecting with San Diego again for both San Diego Magazine and our media partner, San Diego News Network.”
The column will be a three-dot format, or a summary of several current San Diego-based items broken up by ellipses, covering various aspects of life in the city. Doing this requires interactivity and support from SDNN and San Diego Magazine readers. “It’s a team sport. I’m going to need help from San Diegans who keep their eyes and ears open to make this city column thing work. That’s what’s going to make this new gig so enjoyable for me, and, I hope, for readers and listeners, too,” said Blair.
Blair is one of Southern California’s best-known and most-productive journalists. A veteran of newspapers, radio, television and magazines, he was named editor of San Diego Magazine in 1995. He began his newspaper career in 1972 as a reporter for The Evening Tribune and was, for some 20 years, The San Diego Union-Tribune’s best-read columnist. In 2005, he was honored with the Harold Keen Award for Outstanding Contributions in Journalism by the San Diego Press Club.
Additionally, Blair has authored several, well-respected books, including Yesterday’s San Diego, which he co-authored in 1976, and San Diego World Class City that was published in 1998. He also has served on the boards of more than a dozen charitable organizations and foundations, including the Monarch School for homeless children, Scripps Cancer Center and the San Diego Film Commission.
“San Diego Magazine is one of several, valued media partners for our news organization,” said Neil Senturia, CEO of SDNN and co-host of A Conversation with San Diego. “Having contributions from people like Tom who know this city in and out will truly give our readers and listeners unique perspectives on news and information about where they live, work and play. We’re excited to get this going!”
