The Metropolitan Transit Service (MTS) has opened a convenience kiosk at the Fashion Valley Trolley stop.
The StationShop will sell snacks, tobacco products, San Diego Chargers memorabilia and other packaged goods.
Construction of the shop cost $100,000 and was funded at no cost to taxpayers, through a public-private partnership between MTS and BriceHouse Starboard and the Kobey Corp. – a joint venture called BriceHouse Kobey LLC.
The shop took two months to build and required little technical expertise other than accessing MTS’ utilities, including water, sewer and electricity.
MTS will benefit from the revenue stream generated by monthly rent. The shop will be operated by Ray Nafez, who also serves as the retail operator at El Cajon Transit Center.
BriceHouse Kobey plans to continue working with MTS to install similar convenience stops at transit stations with foot traffic levels large enough to sustain the businesses.
