When I was a freshman in college, I was hooked up with an internship in L.A. through a family friend that ran a small Fashion PR agency out of her home. At the time, I didn’t know that what I was doing was actually “Fashion PR”. I went to a shows in the Fashion District of downtown L.A., spent time compiling fashion designer names/emails as prospects and creating media lists.  Seven years later after identifying that I wanted to do PR, I realized that my first internship was actually in that field! While I currently do general PR for a range of clients, I have not worked specifically in the fashion arena. But, a recent meeting with some local fashion experts re-sparked my interest to dive into that area.

Since joining the board of Dress for Success San Diego, I have been helping with some of their PR, and one of the big media pushes we are about to start making is for the upcoming Moonlight Chic event that will incorporate a fashion show as a focal point of the evening.  So naturally, I scheduled a meeting with some strategic partners including the very talented Adrienne Saks and Dean Hall. They recently teamed up and launched their own fashion styling businessHall & Saks, after working for the likes of Bloomingdales and other recognized companies. After inundating them with questions in order to understand their business a little better, and discussing some recent questionable fashion trends, we buttoned-up some great ideas for pre-event media and story ideas.

Another major player in this event that I have to give a shout out to is LOFT – they are donating ALL the clothing for the fashion show and working with Hall & Saks to create some amazing looks! We are beyond thrilled to have them on board as well. Between Hall & Saks, LOFT, Palomar Hotel and other amazing contributors like Bobbi Brown, the event is sure to be a hit.

With all these amazing participants coming together for a great cause, I hope we can get some coverage to let the public know about the exciting event, and how they can be a part of the action.  The wonderful Dress for Success San Diego board members are working day and night to make this event fun and engaging; I am honored to be a part of the team.

Can’t wait for Moonlight Chic on October 16, 2013!

(Also, I will mention a great resource for anyone trying to break into the fashion PR industry is PR Couture by Crosby Noricks. Crosby worked for a former client of ours and has some great advice for anyone in the business.)
