1. Labor Day marks the end of summer, but the pumpkin spice latte marks the official start of the fall season. Changing leaves and crisp autumn breeze is topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice. The only reason people don’t wear white after Labor Day now is because they don’t want to stain their clothes with a spill from PSL. Get the latte before it’s too late.

2. The PSL has created its own cult following from its target audience of 20 to 38-year-old females. The fact that the “basic white girl” image is associated with the fall latte proves that Starbucks knows its target audience. Despite any “basic” negative connotations, Starbucks and the millions of people sipping the spices of the PSL own it.

3. In September, Starbucks changed the recipe of the pumpkin spice latte for the first time in 11 years… and it worked. After succumbing to the pressures to come clean about ingredients from organic food bloggers and fast-food chain critics, Starbucks decided to include real pumpkin in the recipe. Starbucks was thought to have “ruined fall” for thousand of its customer. The pure ingredients only boosted the chatter about the soon-to-arrive drink. Desperate customers flooded stores on September 8 in hopes of tasting a drink that resembled the original. And the customers were pleasantly satisfied. The latte is said to “make the leaves crunchier and the breeze crisper.” The new flavor aided the sale of more than 200 million pumpkin spice lattes since 2003.

 4. The pumpkin spice latte has its own twitter account.

@TheRealPSL.The Real PSL twitter account includes a birthday and place for the pumpkin spice latte and describes itself as the official twitter for fall’s official beverage from @Starbucks. Its feed is caffeinated with spicy tweets from the satirical beverage. The Real PSL also tweets pictures of itself practicing latte yoga, farm life chores and watching movies. I tweeted at the PSL for comment on why it thinks it's fall’s favorite beverage. Its reply:
